I would have rated this 5 stars if there were a few drawings for clarification. Pictures help explain so much better than just words.There were several spelling errors that I could overlook if diagrams had been included.The information is excellent and would be very helpful for new sewers.

This book is absolutely a beginner's guide to sewing. The contents of the book are so organized from the history of sewing, to the list of the basic materials you need for sewing and the ending topics on some easy projects to do so you can try on your newly learned skill. I assure you that after reading this book you have enough knowledge to master this craft. All the basics are taught here from the manual stitches to using the sewing machine. I wish though that the book has some drawings or illustrations. I think that would be much helpful especially for visual learners like me. But overall this book is a good buy for those who are interested in learning how to sew.
Learning how to sew either by hand or machine is very important to me since I have plans of accomplishing some household projects that involve a lot of sewing procedures. I feel fortunate that I have found this book. This book has made sewing an easy task through its simple steps in learning the basics of sewing. As a beginner. I really don't have to worry in acquiring such sewing skills through the help of this book and of course, through considerable and constant practice. At the end of this book, there are simple projects that one can choose and practically start right away for purposes of learning the actual craft of sewing.
I found this book enjoyable for the most part. It's written very well, is simple and easy to read. I particularly enjoyed reading about the history of sewing; I learned a lot of cool stuff I didn't know. I also liked the part when it talked about the bare-minimum tools you need to get started. If you've ever wandered into a craft store or sewing department only to be completely overwhelmed by all the STUFF you can buy, you'd be delighted to find the short list provided here in this book.What this book did for me is give me a nice foundation of info to build on. The author does a great job of taking basic sewing skills and techniques and explaining them simply. Because of this, I intend on keeping it on my kindle so that I can reference it later on. It'll be the equivalent to calling a friend who is an experienced seamstress (which I do not have!) to ask simple "How do I..." questions.That being said, there were a couple of things I wasn't crazy about. For one thing, I think the subtitle is a little inaccurate. While I agree with the fact that it's an absolute beginners guide, I'm not convinced that speed, creativity, and mastery result from reading this book. Obviously those things come with time and practice. As with all other pursuits, it is in actually doing the thing that you gain confidence in your abilities. But this book is absolutely a nice place to start if this is ultimately your goal. Perhaps that's what was meant?The other thing I wasn't crazy about is the lack of graphics. I'm a visual learner, so I can read something a thousand times and still have no idea where to start. But give me a picture of what you're trying to tell me to do, and it makes all the difference. So while the text itself was simple and to-the-point, I'll definitely need to supplement it with a guide that's a little more image-intensive.Overall...I think it's worth the download and worth keeping as a reference, and I'd recommend it as a nice jumping-off point for someone like me, who is just getting their feet wet!
