About the Author

Mitchell Scheiman, OD, FCOVD, FAAO, is a nationally known optometric educator, lecturer, author, and private practitioner. He graduated from the New England College of Optometry, Boston, MA, in 1975 and completed a residency in vision therapy at the State University of New York College of Optometry in 1976. He has specialized in vision therapy for the past 35 years. Dr. Scheiman is currently director of Pediatric and Binocular Vision Programs at The Eye Institute and professor of optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He has written three books for optometrists, covering the topics of binocular vision and vision therapy, pediatric optometry, and learning-related vision problems, and he has published more than 140 articles in the professional literature. He is a Diplomate in Binocular Vision and Perception and a Fellow in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Scheiman maintains a private practice in the Philadelphia suburbs where he specializes in vision therapy.    Dr. Scheiman has a long and close relationship with occupational therapists. He is the founder of Vision Education Seminars, a company that develops and provides continuing education programs about vision to occupational therapists. In the past 15 years he has lectured to more than 7000 occupational therapists. He co-manages patients with occupational and physical therapists in his practice, and his wife, Maxine Scheiman, has been an occupational therapist for more than 20 years.

This book was pretty good!

Was recommended at the Tennessee annual conference, and I love it!

Not typical light summer reading. But I wouldn't have time during the school year. Dr. Scheiman is clearly making an effort to write for his audience--PTs, not other MDs. Haven't gotten far into the book yet. Sometimes he's a bit repetitive and there are a few places where I can see the benefit of a non-technical editor. It has all the plot and character development of a textbook, which is pretty much what it is. And for a textbook the writing is passable and the information is quite valuable. Scheiman also presents in a way that is not likely to encourage people to try to practice beyond their realm of expertise, a real concern with a volume like this. Probably should be recommended for Assistive Technology folks as well as PTs.

This is a very nice read on luxury brands and how they sustain their place through unique and strong branding.

Wonderful insight into the intricacies of managing luxury brands. As a high-school student completing an independent study in the behavioral economics behind the luxury industry, this book perfectly suited my needs.

Even to the outsider, this can be a fascinating subject to consider, although the book’s price might mean it is less of an impulse buy to the information-curious. If you have a practical business need for this kind of information and thoughts you won’t even think about the price.Written as a series of essays, the author considers many different issues such as brand sustainability, transforming product positioning, logos, pricing and marketing exclusivity.You don’t need to work within a luxury brand sector-company to get a lot of benefit out of the book. What I love about this book is that it is "Kapferer" on luxury, and not just another book on the trendy topic of luxury. And what does this mean? It means, I believe, a book where concepts are explained and used in a neat and clean fashion, disentangled from adjacent concepts. Luxury is different from premium, and from fashion. This book also a fantastic read for anyone who wants to understand what is the luxury model, from all the perspectives: marketing, of course, but also from a corporate strategy point of view. It appears that understanding luxury is not only about understanding what it represents for the consumers, and why consumers love luxury products, but it is also about grasping that luxury is an industry, as well as an economic model, with its rules and results. And to grow a luxury business, a company has yet to remain rare. How can they achieve that? Read the book and you'll understand!I also enjoyed reading about the relationship between luxury and arts. It is very well thought: "Art reinforces [luxury brands'] symbolic authority", and it helps all the industry "downplay the social stratification motivation of consumer demand and to foster more humanistic motivations, such as [...] tradition, culture, [...] creativity, and timelessness."This book is based on research and that makes it a very unique read, for researchers and practitioners alike.I enjoyed reading it and learned a lot from it.

Every year I purchase a Charley Harper mini calendar to hang by the sink in my bathroom. I also give them as stocking stuffers knowing that if they want, my friends can hang them without taking up a full wall. My friends and I enjoy the lovely and often humorous nature subjects of Mr. Harper's art. It is amazing to me that he captured the personality of all the critters he painted with the use of graphic shapes and color. A quick glance at my calendar gives me a lift and often a giggle as I start my day.

I love Charlie Harper and was so excited to get my 2019 calendar. I was super disappointed to see that January was missing the picture for the month.

We've been buying Charlie Harper calendars for years and love them, but this one is missing the months of April and June!

Large squares for each day, plenty of room for notes. I'm a huge fan of Charley Harper, and I appreciate the mix of images. I hate it when you purchase the same artist's calendar and discover repeats of the artwork.I give this calendar four stars because of the glossy paper. I think that better quality matte paper would complement the minimal realism and make the details easier to see.

About the Author

Sir Ernest Shackleton, C.V.O. (1874-1922) is regarded as perhaps the greatest of all Antarctic explorers. He was a member of Captain Scott's 1901-1903 expedition to the South Pole, and in 1907 led his own expedition on the whaler Nimrod, coming within ninety-seven miles of the South Pole, the feat for which he was knighted. The events of that expedition are chronicled in his first book, The Heart of the Antarctic. He is considered one of England's greatest heroes for his actions during the ill-fated Endurance expedition, leading all of his men to safety after being marooned for two years on the polar ice. South is his recounting of this expedition. He died at age forty-seven during his final expedition, and was buried in the whaler's cemetary on South Georgia Island in the South Atlantic.

Anyone heading into desolate polar regions on a vacation excursion today owes it to themselves to read this fascinating book, before you go.You'll have a much better appreciation that you are going there with very high assurances of returning whole, healthy and on schedule, having seen (and endlessly photographed) some of the wonders of that savage world in the comfort of warm dry clothes, on well-planned landings from a ship where you are well fed, and sleep warm & safe at night.

Enough has been said about the story to make any further comment redunday. That said, Shackleton's style is one for the reader. His narrative is engaging and he never bogs down in scientific gobbledegook. It is simply the recounting of an expedition gone disastrously wrong. He doesn't embellish nor does he wallow. Things are bad enough without having to make them seem worse and the bravery his leadership inspired needs no exaggeration.The expedition was in several parts, Shackleton's being just one, and each had their tales of woe. The reader that complained about being bored at the end is just missing the point.The edition is virtually typo free and very much recommended. The lessons learned are used today in managerial circles. It's incredible to think that we are learning things now that were known about so long ago.Leaders like this are a rare breed and stories like this are rarer still. Wonderful, thrilling reading and for the princely sum of nothing at all, how can you go wrong?As a thought, the diagrams and pictures would have been a nice addition to this Kindle book but I did see on the Windows 8 version a list of maps and illustrations. Maybe that's for PC only but I'm not complaining.Now to read about Scott.

The first hand story of an amazing survival story based on Shackleton's memory and journals (his and others). I actually found it helpful to read both this book and the one by Alfred Lansing - "Endurance:Shackleton's Incredible Voyage" to get a complete picture. Lansing includes much more detail from the other participants' journals as well as personal interviews with some of the survivors. But, to get the first hand account of one who was actually there this book by Shackleton is wonderful.

I probably would have given 3 stars had I not already read "Endurance". This exposition by Shackleton himself is not nearly as "gripping" as it is more in the way of a relatively dispassionate diary/journal. It does serve to flesh out some areas of "Endurance" as well as add some details of the expedition not in "Endurance".

The whole Shackleton saga reminds me of Apollo 13. The goal of the mission itself "failed", but in spite of "impossible" circumstances the teams returned home safely!In Shackleton's account, it seems minimalist in comparison to some other more extensive biographies of the topic. This opinion applies to this Kindle reading. I have the regular hard copy of "South", which appears much larger but have not yet compared the two. This I don't know if the Kindle version is abbreviated. For one thing, there are no photos or maps in the Kindle version. With this type of event, I like to have maps to refer to. Nonetheless it was nice to add this to my collection of Antarctic/Arctic exploration readings.

A concise recollection of the harrowing experience of a group of common men who portrayed heroic behavior in the most unfathomable situation. This part of the globe was totally unknown to humanity at the time but these men undertook the challenge of discovery. It is hard to imagine anyone in today's age doing anything so daring. What is left? The whole globe is mapped by satellite, man has walked on the moon. These brave men were true heroes who managed to survive unthinkable hardships. Let's not forget just how helpless we all are without the technology available to us today.

Sumptuous and mind-boggling. I was reading it right before going to bed but it made me too excited to sleep so I had to stop. Now I look at it in the morning. NB: These are stories - often fascinating - of building a great garden. Not a plant book or gardening guide.

What glorious gardens! Expensive, but worth the price for those who love gardens and are looking for inspiration.

This beautiful book far exceeded my highest expectations. After reading and viewing the photographs in this book, I cannot imagine anyone attempting another book on the private gardens of England. A master work!While I enjoyed the text accompanying all the stunning photographs, I particularly enjoyed the text accompanying the photographs of Wyken. Witty, clever and engaging.
