Randy Denmon has published four novels set in the American West, including Lords of an Empty Land, a Civil War novel that won the Western Writers of America Spur Award. He has also published a book of narrative non-fiction, Off the Grid, about his travels in Latin America in an electric car. Very good first guide for people just arriving to Antigua or planning to go there. Places to stay, places to eat and more.

This is a great guide. I have already spent 4 vacations in Antigua (once for a whole month) but after reading this book I see that I still have many more sights to see. I especially like the info on architectural sights and the recommendations for street food. I will be using this guide a lot on my next trip to Antigua, which is in less than 2 weeks. -- YAY!!

This is a thoroughly detailed and interesting guide about Antigua and the surrounding area. While it could have benefited from some better proof-reading to catch numerous spelling and grammar errors (and a few incomplete sentences), the content is nonetheless excellent, which is why I still gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the Kindle edition of Mr. Polanco's book. Unfortunately, this edition suffers from many technical errors which make it difficult to read and use on my Kindle Fire 8. There are many pages where the last line does not appear or is cut in half. Throughout the book, especially in the beginning sections, the green subtitles have lost their place and appear in the middle of the paragraph. This is also true in later sections of the book, but they are black subtitles. Some sections have lines of type on top of other lines. There are still typographical errors in the text which are distracting. What I find most disappointing, though, is the reproduction of the photographs in this edition are second rate. This is a tragedy because one of many of Mr. Polanco's strengths is his outstanding photographic vision. In other editions of his guide, these photographs are, in my opinion, the hallmarks for his book. They are rich, vibrant, and blast the eyes with brilliant hues, tones, and intense colors. Check out his Antigua calendar to fully understand what I mean. Here, they are merely good and seem to have a bit of graininess to them.Setting the technical issues aside, and this is difficult to do in this edition, he has shared with us the usual and wonderful locations anyone must see when visiting La Antigua. I find most valuable the hidden gems and treasures he sprinkles along the way for us to discover. Isn't that what exploring is all about? One issue I take with him is his rating system for museums. I do not know what he is really basing these on, but to give the museum on the book only one star is not fair. I am a printmaker, so this museum was fascinating.My advice to potential purchasers is to consider a different edition until Mr. Polanco can solve the technical issues which now are an injustice to his hard work.

When we moved to Antigua a few years back this guide was indispensable. Everyday information you need to live in or visit this fabulous town. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

I own this author's other books, and subscribe to his Newsletter, and have found all of them to be extremely helpful. This one is an excellent addition. But, I am probably prejudice since I can never get enough of Antigua and, most of all, her people!! My only suggestion, and why not 5 stars, there needs to be a reference to the amount of LOUD fireworks. If you are traveling with your dog, be prepared! Other than that, enjoy Guatemala and Guatemala will enjoy you!!!

Really, I found it to be not of much use. I had hoped it would give better info about restaurants, etc.

The humor is great, but when it's time to get down to business. Well, there's not much here. The recipes are literally stuff you can google, nothing spectacular. The meats are also pretty exotic for someone who has no idea what to make for dinner and likely doesn't have clams or lamb or lobster idling in their freezer or fridge waiting on you to get creative in the kitchen. So unless you like going home, wondering what to cook, browsing your book, then taking your book to the store as a list to cook something, i'd skip this one.

I am a little late in writing the review but I purchase this back in December as a Yankee Swap gift for Christmas party. It was an absolute hit! Everyone had some great laughs about it and had a good old time reading through the foul-mouthed recipes hahaha! I recently just spoke to my sister-in-law and asked if she had used the book yet and she said she has used it many times already and that the recipes are fantastic! So not only does it give people a good chuckle but it gives them some good meals as well.

I bought this book for my college-age brother, who is learning to cook on his own. It's a funny book and my brother loved the profanity. It's the first cookbook he's ever been interested in, and I think it's mainly the colorful language.I like that the bottom of every page suggests another page if that one doesn't suit your fancy.The only real downside is that there are no photos. Especially for a more beginner chef, not having photos (and having somewhat obscure ingredients to most families, like scallops or chimichurri sauce) makes it harder to know if that's really what the flip you want for dinner.

This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever purchased. I purchased as a gag(ish) gift for my wife, but it has quickly become our go-to cook book! Big shout-out to the steak with chimi-churri recipe. We have this book out in our kitchen as a conversation starter for obvious reasons and our friends/family always get a huge kick out of it. We have recently started a system where one of us picks a number, we flip to that page, and then cook that for dinner. Also, if you don't like a recipe or want a different ingredient there are directions at the bottom of the page to flip to another page to get a recipe more in-line with what you want. The recipes are easy to follow, the instructions are hilarious and make you want to read, and the food is delicious.

Every 3rd word is a curse word.Lots of cussing in every creative way imaginable - far more than others.However, that is was makes it hysterical.If bad language grates on you or is offensive to you personally, do not buy it.Otherwise, if the bad language does not bother you, it is absolutely hilarious.Same review for What the F-- should I have to Drink.

Not happy with this book at all. It has crazy advanced meals for the yuppy class of people.. Nothing basic I can whip up and throw together. This book just became a dust collector

So I started reading this & LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!! I even told my hubby I was going to buy MANY more as gifts for Christmas. Then I got to page 51. Zach Golden writes, quote "Sarah Palins political stunt baby could make this dish, so you should have no trouble." Yeah. So, regardless of you political affiliation this should be offensive to you. Zach is basically saying a child (is so dumb they can't do much of anything bc of Down's syndrome), that mind you was only birthed for political gain can make this super easy dish... Ew. What a bummer... As a sister of a handicap brother who worked with these kids for many yrs well this just pisses me off. The ignorance is tragic. Zach I know what you'll probably say "well I'm a comedian, I make fun of everyone" NO. Wrong. My suggestion is to take out page 51, or just change the 1st line. I will. It many more books of you do bc I believe in redemption. People don't realize their ignorance and that's ok bc we all have it some way or another. Seriously, I was digging this, a fine laugh... until page 51.Peace

I got this for my dad for Christmas simply because this books involves his two favorite things...cooking and swearing LOL. I peeked through it a bit and I’m not sure how many recipes he’ll actually make, but I know he’ll get a laugh from it. Pretty much the reason behind purchasing it in the first place. Recommend!

POOR GRAMMAR:This book feels like it has been written by someone with a poor grasp of English. The author has used his spellchecker, and the formatting is OK, but obviously doesn't know how to use "the." Such errors spellcheckers don't fix. Examples:* In Swift language, it is possible...* it is possible to go ahead and build an empty array which has literal, this can be written with the []:There are other grammatical errors also, which make reading the text annoying.ANNOYING SETUP:There is no overview of the book, no general information about the language. It just starts off by describing how to set variables and arrays.NOT FOR BEGINNERS, NOR FOR EXPERTSI'm not a beginning programmer. I'm a beginner in Swift. So, I can generally follow along. But the way the book is set up, it is neither suitable for people with no programming experience at all, or for those of us who have coded for a while. It strikes an unhappy middle ground.SHORT975 locations. 73 pages. You're getting nowhere, fast.Stay away. And I want my money back. Seeing the wording in many of the reviews (many of them unverified purchases) lead me to believe they are false.

The first few sections of this book are quite suitable for beginners -- variables, loops, functions, the basic things that any programmer should know about any language. The last couple of sections, structures and classes, are suddenly much harder for a beginner to understand. I've been programming in various languages for decades and I was all but lost with the turn of a page.Most disappointingly, this book does not even mention two rather significant topics that I bought the book for: error handling (try/catch) and optional/unwrapped variables. The plus side is that this is about the least expensive Swift book on the market. The downside is that I got virtually no value from it.Three stars for what it provides to those who need this kind of introduction, take away stars for being over our heads in the last sections and completely overlooking basic concepts I bump into with about every new line of code I try to write.
