Not being a mathematician, but with a basic math background, I was looking for an introduction to the mathematics of cryptography. I needed that to better understand crypto. The author did a great job ! I was able to understand it almost completely and it gave me wonderful insights that I did not have before. It has lots of errata though, and you should check the author's website for the corrections. Despite that I don't want to give less than 5 stars.

A good read. You either like math or.....Great to engage the mind!

The book is described in a way that makes it sound on the level of other popular survey of history books.It really contains a lot of 'meat' and describes in detail how mathematical tools can be used--and is very clear in doing so.Top notch book. Colleges and public libraries should have this book.

I have read until know just the half of the book but I just wanted to say that. The writer has made the subject of cryptography very interesting, One thing that was a little annoying that in the end of the book. For every chapter he wrote some notes and it was annoying to go each time to the end of the book and read that but overall good book look forward for ending it!

This is like a coloring book for big girls in fashion!! I'm WAY past the age of coloring in the lines but this book is sooooo fun and kinda relaxing. I color in fashion accessories and apparel, it's absolutely so cute. This coloring book is for all ages and who says that I can't color because I'm in grad school. Helps take my mind off stress and who doesn't love fashion!!!

I opened this book with high expectations, much to my disappointment. Most of the pictures just seem to be shapeless garments with no sense of style. I understand runway garments are differently styled than ordinary, but this is really bad. Not at all what I expected, I wanted beautiful clothes with facial features on the models. What I got is a far cry from that.

This is more of a fashion sketch book that can be colored. It has great designs in it but may not engage the interest of younger coloristas.

Mine came as it appeared to be scribbled in by a five year old child . It would have been a better rating other than the crappy packaging , scribbled on pages and way too young for a teen seeking some fashion design inspiration . Thumbs down

The first page i opened it to was apes in mens suits.... Im sorry but really? I dont want to color junk like that, I expected fashion and was really let down.

I find this book VERY abstract. It's edgy, modern, more fashion show clothing vs every-day wear. Which might be very pleasing to some.I wouldn't buy it again, if Id seen the inside.To describe the inside so you can judge for yourself:It includes pages that have mad-lib sort of stories. It includes two whole pages of eggs and bacon images. It has a 'make a fake profile for a model' page, like write in the models' fav song and whatever else. There's models in run-way like clown wear, there's a page to decorate and cut-out an eye mask.The shoe pages look terrible to me. I like harder lines in pictures I color. And the shoes dont represent anything I would like coloring, like a good blahnik or madden shoe.The female model pages, most of the clothing are like drapey simple dresses or drapey parachute-ish type pants. A lot of oversized shirts or blazers on the models.Some pages have just a female head, where i guess you'd focus on make-up or hair design. A couple pages with just simple watches or hats.Some pages seem to have nothing to do with fashion per se, a page of geometric lines or only flowers or only dots or check design.I liked the fashion/designer quotes throughout the book. I like the 'games' where it was something like match this image of a designers head to their name.Overall, I found this to be too abstract, too all-over the place for me. I would say it is less likely to please someone who's more into the coloring side and less into staring at run-way images.I would love to find something in between this and other silly fashion options like barbie-doll images!!

Got this for a friend in the hospital. She's a fashionable 30-something and this has helped to pass the time while she undergoes chemo for cancer. I sent it with a big pack of nice markers and colored pencils, and it was apparently a hit. Send along some nice fuzzy socks with non-slip bottoms and you've got the makings of a nice care package :-)

First, my only real complaint about the book is the extreme overuse of acronyms. If the reader is not a member of the financial industry -- either Wall Street or the Fed -- the use of acronyms makes for a very difficult read and forces the reader to constantly go back to find the definitions.What I liked most about the book was the disclosure of just how incompetent Greenspan, Geithner, Bernanke, and Yellen were/are regarding the central planning of an economy. I also appreciated the author showing the greed and corruption of Jamie Dimon, Larry Summers, and Goldman Sachs.Here are some statements by the author that I found interesting:Page 91 -- The Fed, Fisher argued, was giving in to a "siren call" to "indulge rather than discipline risky financial behavior."Page 252 -- But remember, at the end of the fairy tale, the wolf shows up. The Federal Reserve's radical monetary policy -- imposed by academics with no experience in the business world -- has proved a disaster on an unprecedented scale. Global systemic risk has been exponentially amplified by the Fed's actions.Page 260 -- Central banking around the world has become a growth industry, populated with PhD economists and a few former investment bankers. These unelected men -- and a few women, most notably Yellen -- control the world's economic system. They are arguably more powerful than the world's political leaders chosen by voters.Page 262 -- Mistakes by the Fed included missing the housing bubble and financial crisis, being "blinded" to the slowdown in the growth of worker productivity, and failing to anticipate how inflation behaved in regard to the job market. The Fed's economic projections of GDP and how fast the economy would grow were wrong time and again.Finally, I found it amazing that the Fed continues to rely on models created by hundreds of elitist PhD economists even though those models are wrong more often than they are correct.

Very rarely do we get an inside view of Federal Reserve decision-making from someone near the top. Even more rarely do we get such a view from someone who writes as clearly and wittily as Danielle DiMartino Booth. Fed Up is as much a page-turner as any Tom Clancy or Steven King novel, with one difference. This story isn't fiction. It's all too real and affects every one of us. Highly recommended.

It was an interesting book in terms of discussing the dynamics of the fed and in general getting deeper into the story than can easily be found in the general media. It fell a little short of my expectations in terms of suggesting policy alternatives and why they might have led to a superior outcome once the crisis hit ; same with the discussion of derivatives - the author gives a reasonable account of what happened, but does not break it down, compare it to previous crises, etc. in a way that might suggest how something similar might be detected and/or headed off in the future.Well written and I was not unhappy I purchased it, just came away feeling more like I had read a dramatic novel when I was expecting more policy analysis and data-supported recommendations. Probably a 3.5, but couldn't quite get myself to a 4.

Almost makes you think a PhD in Economics should disqualify you from a position with the Fed. With their consistent tunnel vision and inability to appreciate economic facts right before their eyes, they've done great economic harm to the taxpayers of this country. This book is refreshing in it's approach and insight into the Fed's policy making approach and exposes the out-of-touch theories resulting from academics with no real life experience in the world they claim to understand with their "mathematical models".

The mission must reflect opportunities, competence, and commitment. Drucker cautions: “Never subordinate the mission in order to get money. If there are opportunities that threaten the integrity of the organization, you must say no.”Who is our customer? “The primary customer is the person whose life is changed through your work... Primary customers may be infants, or endangered species, or members of a future generation.” Drucker notes that customer needs evolve. “And there are customers you should stop serving because the organization has filled a need, because people can be better served elsewhere, or because you are not producing results.” Philip Kotler adds, “Our business is not to casually please everyone, but to deeply please our target customers.”What does the customer value? “Leadership should not even try to guess the answers but should always go to the customers in a systematic quest for those answers… People are so convinced they are doing the right things and so committed to their cause that they come to see the institution as an end in itself. But that’s a bureaucracy.”What are our results? “Look at short-term accomplishments and long-term change… One of the most important questions for leadership is, Do we produce results that are sufficiently outstanding for us to justify putting our resources in this area?”What is our plan? “The plan begins with a mission. It ends with action steps and a budget … If you have more than five goals, you have none… Goals make it absolutely clear where you will concentrate resources for results… Goals flow from mission, aim the organization where it must go, build on strength, address opportunity, and taken together, outline your desired future.” The board should set the direction, but not micromanage: “The board must not act at the level of tactical planning, or it interferes with management’s vital ability to be flexible in how goals are achieved.”“Ask of any program, system, or customer group, ‘If we were not committed to this today, would we go into it?’ If the answer is no, say ‘How can we get out—fast?’… Planning is not an event. It is the continuous process of strengthening what works and abandoning what does not.”Peter Drucker wrote the first edition in 1993. This edition is supplemented with chapters by Jim Collins, Philip Kotler, James Kouzes, Judith Rodin, V. Kasturi Rangan, and Frances Hesselbein. There is also a section with more detailed questions organized in subcategories under the five main questions. In total the book is about 100 pages.

Drucker made me feel like running a non-profit would be possible in my life. I feel like I will continue to reference this book throughout my career.The most powerful quotes, of which I immediately wrote in my journal upon reading, are as follows:People have a "desperate need for a guiding philosophy, a beacon on the hill to keep in sight during dark and disruptive times" (pg. 21)"Your success ultimately depends on what you have contributed to the success of your customers" (pg. 34)"Our voyage is an artistic and not just scientific endeavor" (pg. 58)"Ultimately what is remembered is how we have been able to improve lives" (pg. 60)

Peter Drucker takes the reader through the Five Most Important Questions for a nonprofit organization. 1) What is our mission? 2) Who is our customer? 3) What does our customer value? 4) What are our results? and 5) What is our plan? Peter Drucker guides the reader through how to answer each question and how each question leads to more questions. The book is short and only takes about 30 minutes to read. Personally, I thought the Five questions were simple but Peter offers a way on how to tackle each question. The book explains the difference between primary and supporting customers and how each party needs to be satisfied to achieve results. Drucker also goes about offering how an organization can identify their customers and pin point customer values. At first I was turned off by the book because the questions seemed basic and self-explanatory. However, the questions listed in the book is not what adds value to an organization. The techniques and advice on how to interpret and tackle each question is the value in the book. Anyone working in nonprofit should read this book. This book can be expanded from nonprofits and applied to all organizations.
